Every Thursday, our engineering team has a one-hour Tech Talk. It started as a way to teach each other about the technologies we were using, but quickly expanded to new areas we wanted to explore.
A few months ago, we felt that the very active tech community in Chennai might also benefit from these discussions. In November, we teamed up with IEEE-Madras to host a discussion on the Internet of Things (IoT) for about 200 people.
We invited Doss (Founder of IoT Geeks) and Suren (CEO of Redd Robotics) to share with us. Suren started with an “IoT 101” session, asking the audience the right questions to give us a good understanding of what IoT is and how it can be applied in many situations.
Later, during a panel discussion, we learned how IoT is being used in farming. Using communicating sensors, everything can be precision measured – from irrigation to fertilizer.
Siva from AYYOT shared how his website helps beginners explore the concepts of IoT and learn about its basic architectural components.
Finally, we saw some IoT in action. Doss gave us a live demo of how a Raspberry Pi can be used to create IoT connections in a house. They used Node-Red to set up a motion sensor and posted a tweet with a specific gesture. Quite amazing!
At KiSSFLOW, we are always eager to learn new things and learn how they can impact our lives. Stay in touch for the next community Tech Talk!
